It cost's tracks $ to give away stuff, but it cost them more if they don't have enough cars to run a complete show in terms of the driver/crew/fans that are there each week for each team, and in terms of less competition (especially when it comes to heats, or the almost extinct "Consi."  Looking at things from an unaffiliated spectator fan in the stands, and with an interest in trying to grow the sport, I'm a big believer that competition needs to be a part of every event that takes the green flag, except for initial heat in the engines/warm up session.  That's it, period.

Offering a "something" to those drivers that don't qualify for the next scheduled event, might just be enough to keep them motivate to do what they need to do to be ready for battle once again that very next week, especially after what might have been a tough outing.  Is it a lot?...  Not really, but sometimes it's the recognition that they are a very important part of the show, offered with a free pass to the next event, and a sincere handshake, along with a reminder from management to driver that not only do they want to see them next week, but so do the fans, and yes, even their fellow competitors./

To D.Wolfe-358, you may of been the only person who had the patience to read through my proposed "Top Half Advance" qualifying method of running a show when less than 24 cars (or what one would consider a full field based on size of track/other) offered (by me.... Undecided) to put excitement and COMPETITION back into more of the show, instead of just the feature events.  Amazingly, it was a solution to a problem that was identified 10 years ago (I originally posted "Top Half Advance" way back on 8/15/14), and unfortunately, but predictably, car counts remain about where they were, or even less, and nobody embraced what I was proposing..... Frown

Another one of my great ideas that I guess I was the only one who thought it was great!  Surprised

...Definitely not an easy read for those who are in a hurry and don't like to stay on one thing for 5 minutes or more (no names need to be mentioned, you know, like the name KJ Eyres... Laughing...)  But if you've got 5 minutes or so, take the time and read through "Top Half Advance"  (link below), and see if any of it makes sense, or if a modified version would make sense...  To me, anything is better than heat races where everyone qualifies, or where it looks like some guys are just using the heat as another warm up session.  I've been to too many races in the past 15 years where the features were good, but I can't really say the same for the first 2/3rds of the show....

Like I said... It's not a quick read, so pack a lunch... bring a flashlight.... and maybe even crack open a cold one and try to read it from beginning to end.... Think about it for a while.... and then see what you think:

Thanks again D.Wolfe-358 for remembering "Top Half Advance", and I hope that "Free Pass" initiative from Accord Speedway management is rewarded with consistent car counts, including those that had a rough outing the week before.
