Not quite as dramatic as Neil Armstrong's quote from 1969, but with great happiness, I am able to announce that the coil pack did arrive today around 2pm, and yes Kevin... it was the correct part.
Took less than 4 minutes to put in the new coil pack, and 1/2 of that was putting the stupid flat plastic engine cover back in place! Test drove car - all good.
So... took less than 10 minutes combined to diagnose, R&R, test/verify condition corrected.
Here's the scary part of this one example in this "green aware/carbon footprint/wind/solar/energy saving world that we are all being shoehorned into, along with our tax $'s at work:
The part originated in Bronx NY. I am in Allentown NJ. The distance is 71 miles via NJ Tpk/other. The shipping costs were $6.99
As documented, the part went from Bronx, to Trenton, to Oklahoma City, to Tulsa, to Washington DC, to Phillipsburg NJ, to Trenton, to Allentown NJ. That is 3062 miles.
If I was evaluating this from a business viewpoint, to go 71 miles @6.99 would be just under $0.10 per mile. That's what was supposed to happen. The route this package took, works out to $438.50 per mile (3062 miles ÷ $6.99 = $438.50.)
Lastly, shortly after I placed my order, I received tracking info that it would be delivered on Thursday (3 days.) It took just under 9 days.
The original info I received was that it was to be delivered on Thurs 10/11 (3 days), It ended up being just a few hours shy of 9 full days. If you're still reading this, I'll spare you the calculations, and trust me, it works out to a little over 210 hours. Now not that I would have tried this, especially without the AOK from Roger Laureno , but according to Google Maps, if I was willing to take the ferry out of Belford, I could have made the round trip, walking.... from Allentown NJ to Bronx, in 38 hours.
Next time, as you guys suggested, I'll keep it somewhat local, and will take the hour drive or so and see the professionals at Joy Auto Parts in Greenbrook NJ. When they say they have it, they have it... and it will be what you asked for. If they say they don't have it, and you have a little time, they will order it for you and it will ready for pick up that afternoon, or the very next morning.
