I am SO opposed to children racing full sized pure race cars. Would it be ok to let a 12 year old drive a bus? Be a train engineer? Operate a roller coaster? Would any company allow it? Theres enough children in racing now that sooner or later a tragedy will occur. What then? Does anyone think that there would be a media s*** storm once they found out a literal child was killed in a racing incident?
I'm not even sure how track insurance companies approve of this.
I flagged at a track that had a Young Guns division. Kids racing on a 3/8 mile dirt track in bomber stocks. One kid went hard into the outside fence to my left. We went red and from the flagstand I could hear the kid crying. Heartbreaking. I honestly dont believe a child fully understands the idea of serious injury . Or their mortality. Let them grow up first before you live vicariously thru your kid. If they're good theyll have a couple decades to race. Even if they have to wait a few years to do so. |
