Cruising and racing memorabilia fill the west wall (at top) of the Historical Society museum at the Sanatoga Chapel
SANATOGA PA – Although it’s a fact mostly known to long-time residents or Lower Pottsgrove natives, the township has a long-standing history of auto racing. In its day, the Sanatoga Speedway (or, depending on the year, Sanatoga Park Speedway) was the place to see fast cars and hear loud crowds cheer on their drivers.
“What was life like before NASCAR?” is the question being asked, and answered, Sunday (Nov. 27, 2022) from 1 - 3 p.m. by the Lower Pottsgrove Historical Society during a regular monthly open house at its Sanatoga Chapel headquarters, 2341 E. High St.
The society museum is filled with artifacts of racing days long past, and of the track that once stood near where the Sanatoga Greene town homes and apartments now rise west of Evergreen Road. A paved drag strip was started there, too, but never completed. Several society members have their own tales of those days, and they’re willing to share them with visitors.
The open house is free to attend and welcomes the public. Light refreshments will be served. Free parking is available on the grounds.
