GODOWN SCORES BACK TO BACK WINS ON SCOUT NIGHT

Four time track champion, Ryan Godown, proved to the crowd in attendance Saturday night that he is back and on track for title number five as he won the thirty lap modified feature on Scout Night. With speedway management fighting the reports of inclement weather moving in, the modified main event was brought out onto the speedway after some track prep and it was young Anthony Tramontana who took the lead when the green flag dropped with Jack Butler second and Louden Reimert third.

The first caution flag of the race waved on lap four as two time track champ, Billy Pauch Jr., and Cale Ross came together in turn four. Pauch never stopped as Ross was able to refire his #112 and rejoin the rear of the field.

On the restart, Matt Stangle was able to outrun Tramontana to take the lead on lap five as Godown was already in third and on the move. Slipping into second on lap six, it was virtually a replay of the season opener when the two battled hard right up until the checkered flag fell. This time though, the battle would end much earlier in the race as Godown used a restart to take the lead on lap nine.

Holding a comfortable lead over Stangle, the veteran campaigner saw that lead evaporate on lap nineteen as Ryan Godown Jr slowed in between turns three and four. A quick restart saw Godown hold off Stangle to remain in the lead as Justin Grosso was running a strong third. With the laps quickly coming to an end, Godown was able to hold on for the win notching career feature win number fifty one. Following Stangle and Grosso across the line were Jordan Watson and Jack Butler. Pauch Jr. claimed sixth place money with Danny Bouc seventh, Reimert eighth, Willie Osmun ninth, and Brandon Grosso tenth.

The first NEWS sprint car main event of the 2023 season saw three time champion, Rich Mellor, drive a flawless race to record the win. The race was a highly competitive one from the drop of the green as Larry Drake roared into the lead with Shea Wills second and Mellor third.

Mellor made a bold move taking over the number one spot on lap two and then had to hold off the challenges of Wills and defending champ Mick DAgostino for the win. Heidi Hedin made a late race move to take fourth with early leader Drake fifth.

Coming off of a solid second place finish in the first event of the year, Vern McLaughlin looked strong from the drop of the initial green flag taking the win in the twenty lap street stock main event. McLaughlin wrestled the lead away from three time track champion, Bill Leidtka, on lap twelve and held off a strong late race bid from Drew Brocklebank to take home the win. Following the Brocklebank #60 across the line were Chris Lane, Derek Jones, and Scott Freed.

In the twenty lap 4 Cylinder headliner, Kyle Hurley took the lead on lap six and then held off a strong Ed Ford challenge to take the memorable win. Doug Ashford was third, Joe Garey Sr., fourth, and Joe Garey Jr. fifth.

Timmy Franks led the eight lap Crate Rookie feature from start to finish taking his first ever win. Last events winner Ryan Maher was second and Isaac Elsner third.

Next up on the schedule will be another five feature program featuring the modifieds, 602 crate sportsman, 4-cylinders, street stocks, and the
rookie crate sportsman. The program begins promptly at 6pm.
