Meant to post this earlier in the week....

Saw the best 305 Sprint show that I think I've ever seen, this past weekend at Bridgeport.

They had a big field of cars, and provided a lot of excitement in both the heats and in the feature which was won by Eddie Wagner.  Side... by side... by side racing throughout the field.

I saw a familiar looking #36 on one of the wings, and heard the announcer during the lineup saying "Kenny Laureno in the #36."

Kenny Laureno in the #36 MASS 305 Spring - Pretty cool!

I was also paying attention to young Aiden Borden who was absolutely flying in his heat race.  I had my unofficial stop watch going and clocked laps at:  14.92 and a 14:91 seconds.  In the feature, Aiden started 12th and worked his way up to 2nd place in a very fast paced feature.

After the feature, they had the top 5 cars behind the stands, so I was able to compliment him on a great run and grab a few pictures.

Aiden Borden #7

After sharing a few lap times that I had captured on the stop watch function of my phone, Aiden walked me over to the car and showed me a note he had written on the dash as a reminder to "Get Off The Bottom!"

Aiden is recent high school graduate and has plans for attending college this fall, and I heard the announcer say that he was recently selected as the winner of the Greg Hodnett Foundation Scholarship.  Students were asked to write an essay, and Aiden wrote about what Sprint Car Racing means to him, and the panel that judged the entries selected Aiden's essay as the best from all received, which earned him the award.

Good kid.... and very fast!

Great job by the MASS 305 Sprints.

Glad to see the racing torch being passed onto the next generations of Laureno's and Borden's . Since URC was founded as the so called working mans club, I was sorry that they didn't evolve to become a 305 club. The 360's and 410's are slowly pricing themselves out of existance.

I also thought that was the best 305 race race that I saw at Bridgeport. I really wish they'd cuut back on the number of sprint car races that they have at Bridgeport. The 305's up to the last race get spread out very fast, with not alot of side by side racing. They  flip alot more  than the stock cars and it takes forever to get them going after the red. Maybe they're getting a little better because they some very aggressive young drivers.

They had what I thought was a pretty good system to get the sprint cars going again after a red.  Just about every sprint car had a crew guy on a quad staged inside the 1/4 mile track near the scale while the race was going on.  Then after the red had been out for a while and the cause of the red had been attended to, the crew guys on their quads could safely go out to their respective team car and then were at the ready to push them off as soon as the yellow replaced the red.

Seemed like a lot better system than where I've seen some tracks in the past have 2 wreckers and 2 push trucks to get 20+ sprinters pushed off each time after a red.

I agree with you they are getting better at pushing the cars after reds at Bridgeport.

Thank you Joe. With a lot of help from from some old friends and old sponsors as well as some new ones , we were able to get Kenny's car done recently. Last Saturday was his third night out . The 305 's   usually produce good racing and their philosophy of "recreational racing" helps to keep a lid on the cost. Kenny is having a ball , working hard and improving every time out.  I'm trying to keep my nerves in check. We're heading to NES this week.

Congratulations to Aiden Borden on the scholarship. I was at Port Royal where he respectfully and thankfully accepted it . Nice kid
