I watched "The Best Years of Our Lives" on Turner Classic Movies (TCM) and there's a scene about 1/2 way through where one of the lead characters is walking through a salvage yard of planes and engines from WWII that were ready to be "recycled."
I'm not into planes as much as you guys, but am smart enough to look up when I hear that distinct rumble of any WWII airplane, and knowing that all of those planes and parts were scraped almost brought a tear to my eye!
Not sure if you've ever seen the movie, or that particular scene, but thought you might want to check it out if you get TCM on your cable/streaming. |

Thanks. Will have to check it out. After WW2 alot of planes were abandoned, alot of Corsairs were pushed into the Great Lakes, I try not to think about it, but just the ones we see fly. Best experience was standing in back of a Corsair starting and warming up. My wife thought I was nuts standing there. Radial engines have a sound of their own, unlike straight engines.

Thanks! Haven't seen that one in a while. Waiting for an Amazon delivery today of an old B&W movie from WWII, God Is My Copilot. Still haven't gotten through my WWII Weekend images yet, or my 2 trips to The Grove this year, All Stars & WOO. |
