being an asphalt guy , not so familiar with dirt cars ; but didn't some dirt cars have handbrakes on them ? maybe that's the lever you're looking at ?? or am i hallucinating !!!! lol !!! blessings !!! bill |

Could be either a hand clutch, or a hand brake lever. Sometimes the foot box is cramped or the old stock transmission shifting linkage was cumbersom, having the addition of a hand lever made life eaiser. A couple of my vintage cars have hand levers in them. |

In the third photo there's a sign that reads stay in your car or be disqualified. I raced in the the 70's and early eighties on asphalt, I have a terrible memory but I don't remember that being a big issue until after the Tony Stewart incident, where almost all tracks have that rule now. What incident or incidents that happened made Don Jones come up with that rule? |

Think that was to keep Heat Race Winner's to stay in the car. While they took photos of each heat race winner with the Checkered Flag. |
