I 95 will be closed for months due to bridge colapse. This is going to cause a traffic nightmare on the Jersey side.

I agree. NJs I-295 is going to be a nightmare re Bridgeport.  I haven't researched it but the NJ turnpike may be an option for at least the race fans who have decent access to it.  I think its worth a "mapquest" look.

I'm reading that the southbound lanes of I 95 were compromised as well and are also closed for now.

It'll be a big mess for a while in that area, but also in other key spots.  At certain times of the day there is already plenty of traffic on 295 and the NJ Turnpike, to the point of seeing brake lights when you'd think it'd be clear sailing.  For the Maine to Florida travelers, to then add a bunch of would be I 95 users to the stretch between Hamilton NJ to the Delaware Memorial Bridge will cause additional issues.  A good example is anyone heading north from Delaware (just north of Newark), where some split off to the take the little stretch of Delaware Rt 13 to the bridge, while the majority stay on 95 North, that's going to be a nightmare as I had to make that merge to get to NJ this past Friday at 3:30pm, and it was backed up then, when there wasn't anything wrong with 95.
