Can anyone tell us why Stubby Stevens ran the #S1?
Unfortunately, the bonus points don't really earn you anything more than an 'attaboy, but figured I'd see if anyone else knows the reason as it was told to me by Bob Rossell.... |

Stubby worked with school busses and S-1 was his bus number. |

Yea... Thanks CB. That's kind of what I heard too. I think "S1" is a school bus designation for registration or something like that.
Stubby was before my time, but I'm thinking that there was probably a connection between his # S1, and the #S1 that Jackie Moschera would later use for his car #. |

I'm pretty sure the first S-1 that Jackie ran was the actual car that Stubby ran. |

FOR WHAT ITS WORTH AND I'M SURE ITS NOTHING. I HAVE THE R/F RECAP SLICK AND HOMEMADE WIDE FIVE WHEEL THAT CAME OFF OF ONE OF CHARLIE BIRDSALL'S SEDANS. I USED TO USE IT TO LOAD MY CAR ON THE TRAILER IN THE 70'S. |

I'll bet there are still a lot of parts, or pieces, or tools out there that once maybe had a more "significant" purpose than being used for in more recent years, but it doesn't take away from their history. I've been told that there are some trailers out there that were from back in the day, or at least part of them were and then modified for more recent use. I'll bet there's shop equipment and tools that once were used to create racecars, or to repair those that needed repairing... ...Maybe now just sitting in somebody's tool drawer waitin' to be called on again..... |

Raced with Mike Stevens, Stubby's son, at Wall in the Sportsmans in the early 80. Had a beautiful, fast car of course number S-1. Mike was a good guy but a bit on the crazy side. Fun to be around. |
