Msg ID: 2812472 Question of The Week: "Local" Long Time Short Track Race Car Sponsors +0/-0
Author:3-Wide
4/23/2024 1:00:42 PM

This week's question:  What sponsors or sponsors of the sport do you think of when you think of having a long time involvement with short track racing?  It could be a company that has sponsored/been associated with specific cars, or possibly a company that supported many different racers over the years.

Locally, I noticed "Fingers Auto Radiator" on the hood of John Norcia's #81 car this past Saturday running the Rookie Division at Flemington.  Finger's Radiator was on the hood of all of the Norcia #81 cars throughout the 70's, and a few more such as Fred Dmuchowski's #303 Pintos, the #22 driven by Phil Meisner, etc.,.

It could have been a main sponsor, or an associate sponsor.... but if you remember them and the car/cars they sponsored, let us know an example (or a few examples!) who the question of "Long Time Sponsor" make you think of.

It could be a sponsor that is no longer involved, or a sponsor whose name can still be found on the side/hood/wherever on the car(s) at your local weekly short track.

Let us know any business who you think of as having a long time involvement with local racing.

Mention, the business name, car/cars the sponsor is/was associated with, and any other info you'd like to add.

Thanks -

For Dirt IZZI Trucking & Rigging has been sponsoring cars for a long time.  Paul Illmeni had the name on his cars when he raced Sportsman at Flemington. Last year the name was on Sammy Martz and Ethan Bills cars. This year the name is currently on Ryan Gowdons car.

For Asphalt the name John Blewett Inc. had been on stock cars for a long time. This year besides Jimmy's car the name appears on Ron Ormsbee's Late Model at NES. There was also another car with the name on the car at NES also this past weekend. I will let others chime in.

Along with Mullaney on Jim Hoffmans cars was Matty's Auto Parts. I had sponsorship from them which, like Jim, they provided maintenance parts like spark plugs and belts etc, and also paint, because they were a big Dupont seller to all the local body shops.

Weber's TV and Appliances was first on the roof of PeeWee's #72, then in the hood of the Black Horse 81 for a good long time, then on the 747 when the sail panel cars ran at Windsor.  It was a family business in Deans NJ, owned by my Aunt Elsie and Uncle George, then run by their sons, Lenny and Charles. Lost touch with that side of the fam years ago, I know that Lenny and Charles have both passed.

Al's Sunoco was located on Rt. 31 in Pennington, NJ, was a sponsor on Billy Pauch Sr's hot rods,  I recall Al's was on Billy's 2nd Falcon, and maybe his Gremlin.  Al's Sunoco could be found on "A" post of Billy's #1 hot rods up until the gas station went out of business about 5 years ago.  Does "Pioneer Pole Buidings" qualify?  I know they've sponsored a bunch of cars over the years.  Scott Ely

Unfortunately, this Bechtelsville landmark is no longer in no longer in business, but for many years, it not only served some of the most delicious food that you could imagine, owner Arlen Schaefer was a big supporter of Grandview Speedway through supporting nights at the races, the Minuteman 20 during the Freedom 76 race and was ALWAYS a sponsor on longtime campaigner, Larry Acker.
