This Week's Question: Orange Race Cars |
Author:3-Wide
6/5/2024 11:00:33 AM
|
Looking for things to talk about here and I got thinking about colors of race cars... and how all these year's later, what cars come to mind when a particular color is mentioned....
So for this week... let's start with "ORANGE."
It could be a modified/sportsman, dirt/asphalt, sprint car, street stock/late model, stock car, indy car.... whatever, as long as it is a car that you think of when "ORANGE" race car is mentioned:
So, what cars and or driver's do you remember driving ORANGE cars?
Please provide car #, driver's name, and track raced at if you think it'll help us know which car you're referring to.
Let's see what you guys come up with....

Mid 70's / early 80's, Bruce Thompson's Modifieds were orange #14T. When Bruce went sprint car racing, color was switched to yellow. Yellow became the trademark color with Len's #10. Tradition carries on today with grandson Mike Thompson's #11. |

More about George Amerman |
Author:Oldtimer
6/4/2024 6:28:11 PM
Reply to: 2821376
|
The following are notes I recorded when I visited George Amerman at his hone in Budd Lake in May 2012:
George remembered that as a boy in Mt.Tabor he had build a soap box car with orange wheels and rode it on a hill in front of his mother's house. This was the inspiration for painting the car orange. Also the inspiration for naming his later stock cars "Orange Crate" but he did not use this nickname on this first car. The inspiration for the #39 came from the fact that this first stock car was a 1939 Ford sedan and also the fact that George was born in 1939. He began racing in 1963 and ran the sedan for 2 or 3 years at Flemington and Harmony. Here is my model of his rookie 1939 Ford sedan that I built several years ago and posted here at the time. There is a photo of the original car somewhere in the vault
