Msg ID: 2822646 This Week's Question: Red Race Cars
Author:3-Wide
6/20/2024 8:13:29 AM

As mentioned a few weeks ago, for some reason, I was thinking about colors of race cars... and how all these year's later, what cars come to mind when a particular color is mentioned....

So for this week... let's go with "RED."

It could be a modified/sportsman, dirt/asphalt, sprint car, street stock/late model, stock car, indy car.... whatever, as long as it is a car that you think of when "RED"  race car is mentioned:

So, what cars and or driver's do you remember driving "RED" cars?

Please provide car #, driver's name, and track raced at if you think it'll help us know which car you're referring to.

If you think of it, please delete the Subject Line and put the Driver's Name and/or Car # in the Subject Line of the post you are creating. That way, people can see the names that have been provided at a quick glance without combing through multiple posts to see if the driver they were going to add had already been provided.

Let's see what you guys come up with....

Half red mod. The colors were tied into the NJ Devils hockey team. Chris larsen and Halmar sponsor the Devils. The car was kind of jinxed. Took about six tries to win. The scheme went away.

Here a few that I built models of:

Mario and Aldo Andretti's first stock car.  1948 Hudson Commodore.  (There are many references to this having been a Hudson Hornet but the Hornet model was not produced until 1951.)  Sadly this is the car in which Aldo was seriously injured at Hatfield.

Falcon bodied modified built and driven by my friend, the late Bob Benson.  He raced it at Nazareth and Middletown.

One of Joe Cryan Sr.'s early coupes.  A 1933 or 1934 Ford three window.

A 1939 Chevy coupe built and driven by Jim Rush of Washington, NJ - a former co-worker of mine.  He ran this sportsman at Flemington (Flippington).  After a nasty crash he hung up his helmet.

K Bob- I love of the old dirt and asphalt hot rods that show up on 3Wide.  Every once in awhile, one catches  my eye that's special.  Bob Stanford's 98 is one of those racers.  My Bob S. rest in peace.  Scott Ely

I agree - That Monza, with the raised hood, would have definitely caught my eye.  Monza's could look a little bulky in the rear, but that body is sitting just right on the #98 and the obvious raised hood to make room for the engine really ups the cool factor for me for a unique, homebuilt racecar.  Would make a cool model.

Thank you for bringing the car to our attention KBob, and for making us aware of this cool creation driven by the late Bob Stanford.
