Jack Hewitt finished 12th, 25 laps down, in his Radio Hospital 58 Dirt Champ car while running against the Penske, March, Eagle and Lola Indy cars, 43 years ago today on June 21, 1981 at Pocono.

Jerry Sneva 17 finished 25th in that rain-shortened race.

Thanks for posting this photo, Jack. That race weekend I got to hang with the crew of Lyle Roberts' dirt champ car #57 that was driven by Bill Tyler. The speed difference between the dirt cars and the Indy cars was amazing, and frightening. Thankfully there were no incidents between the two divisions as they raced together. The dirt track drivers received strict instructions to stay low on the track. Each dirt car team was guaranteed at least $5,000 to compete that weekend. It was A.J. Foyt's final Indy car win.

Toledo engine builder and all around good guy Bob Fall was there with either the Rodeo Bar, or Weaver Construction car. They were so happy because they made more $ for that event than they had the whole year before.

The highest finishing dirt car was Mark Alderson who finished 11th, 18 laps behind Foyt. Race went less than 110 laps of the scheduled 200 due to rain.
