John, we need an explaination on the steering wheel in your Dad's car.

Another observation, most of these were Turkey Derby 1975. Wall always had two sections in front of the tower as reserved all year, maybe $2 more for those seats and no one ever bought them. lol

Also the Modern Stox ALWAYS ran last and there would be 50 fans (family members) in the stands. It was always great racing, but most fans left after the sportsman feature.

Yeah the steering wheel. That pic is the '75 turkey derby heat race. That was his nova from the '75 season with a camaro body change among other things. He just ran out of time to lower the steering. He sold it to a local guy, Bob Peterson(sp) and it was white and orange. Then my father built the flat black Camaro for the '76 season.
In the second pic, the #10 nova is probably Tom Kowalsky(sp). He was the guy that my father approached after the races and said " I want to build a modern, any pointers?"

As you can see the Camaro is lower than the Nova. There flirting with the stock floor pan rule.

You comment that the moderns were last of the night.Did they ever have a rotation of the schedule. The first time I went to Wall was around 1976 .Moderns were first then sportsmen, and last modifieds.

Moderns were first heat and last feature.  Very rare occasion they ran out of order.  I don't remember if they even had an extra distance race? The only time I remember them running early was a rainout carry over from the week before.

The moderns ran time trials and I guess a 50 lapped in 83/84. After that my father sold his car. So I don't recall much of the last years of the six cylinder class.

I don't remember the cars in these pics but I saw them every Saturday for quite a few years in the second half of the 1980s. I did not like their sound and they really never had overwhelming car counts but I did like the way many of them looked. Many had a real asphalt late model feel. I remember a yellow car with Chowder Pot on the doors. We had one of them in East Windsor as I recall. Never ate there. I hate seafood LOL
