That photo captures the personality of Ken Brenn Jr probably more than any other image I have ever seen.

Possibly the smoothest driver I can think of to wheel a modified on dirt at Flemington, who later put those same skills to work to become successful on asphalt.

Glad for the opportunities that I had to talk to Ken at various racing reunion events over the years.  Thought there would be many more opportunities.

Thank you for posting Jack.

Thanks for posting this wonderful image, Jack. It was always a pleasure for me when I got to interact with him at the Dirt Track Heroes shows.

When Jr's brother Jimmy and me decided we wanted to drive race cars Ken Sr. and my father rented Grandview speedway. For a few hours Jimmy and I followed Kenny Jr around to get the feel for it. Kenny was a great sport about it. Of course he crowded us now and then or whatever else he could do to show us who the boss was.       I'll always be greatful for his friendship.

Was this done with all King cars? Does anybody know if King cars ever won at Grandview?

Only Kenny was in King car. I believe Jimmy was in the Rossell Gremlin and I was in the Mulligan car that Gary Balough won a bunch in. I do know they were all big block Modifieds which was interesting. I think it was in November or even early December. I don't know of a Grant King car that ever raced at Grandview, never mind won.

I can say with almost 100 % certainty that a Grant King modified never won at Grandview, in fact it's quite likely that one never raced there. Remember that Grandview was a small block track, and in King's heyday the only time big blocks ran there would've been MODCAR.

Two quick questions do you know the reason why Ken Sr picked Grandview?

Second question what was the exact color combination on your car?

I don't know the reason for Grandview. Couldn't have been many to choose from at that time of year. It was the perfect place though. As far as our paint colors, The maroon was actully called Vintage Burgundy. We used Dupont # 4490LM or 4490H. It's a 60's Ford color and I think the Ford # might be M1632 but I'm sure the Dupont 4490 is correct. I've also seen it shortened to 490. Anyone who remembers a racer named Ralph Napolitano from the 50's/60's, he picked the colors. As far as the white it's changed a bit over the years from a creamy to stark white. Numbers escape me right now.

Thank you, Anthony I'm glad you remember the paint numbers.  That is pretty interesting.
