Original Message Legendary Sprint Car Driver Jan Opperman Added to ARRA Website Lineup
Ringoes, NJ – ARRA, Auto Racing Research Associates are proud to announce that their ever growing racing statistical website has once again added a driver research project. This time…nationally known sprint car guru and ARRA historian Kevin Eckert has submitted his career stats on Jan Opperman. Opperman, the “God Fearing Racing Hippy” quickly made his mark in racing. The sprint car world was stood on its ear with the sudden success of the Long Beach, CA born speedster and it led him to two career starts in the Indianapolis 500. Cut short by catastrophic injuries while racing ibn 1981, Opperman eventually passed away in 1997. A born again Christian later in life, Opperman was in the process of assembling a Montana ranch for troubled youth. Opperman garnered the adoration of dirt track racing fans across the country when he was afforded the chance to drive at Indy and his dropping from the sport left an indelible mark that many remember as one of the saddest days in the sport. “We here at ARRA are proud to include the legend of Jan Opperman to our website!” claimed organization President Fred Voorhees. “I am actually excited to add Jan. It ranks right up there with having Richie Evans and Bob McCreadie on our site! Truly, Jan was and IS legend and I am thankful to Kevin Eckert for submitting this particular body of work!” I want to welcome all auto racing fans to check out Jan’s page.
