Original Message One thing missing from Fred's post above is that I'm sure the engine was also built by Fred. That's for the post Fred - great stuff. I don't think those of us who were fortunate enough to be at the races in the late 60's and early 70's realize how young Fred Menschner was, as a car owner, and as the engine builder. With drivers Ray Neary and Oliver Butler behind the wheel of the #21, he was always in the hunt and pulled off a few big wins at a time when almost by definition, modified car owners (Deasey, Norcia, Brenn, etc.,) were all supposed to be older/more experienced. I don't think I ever asked, but I'll thinking that Fred was a modified car owner/engine builder while still in his early 20's. |
